Having found some extra down time during May in Summit County, I found myself on an extended vacation back home to St. Louis, Missouri. Talk about a difference in weather! Cold, rainy days turned into humid and hot - very hot! If the sun was out, so was I, camera in tow. I made my way to some of my favorite spots in the city...
The St. Louis Art Museum: The cultural heart of Forest Park, this museum is home to some unforgettable art. The building is currently undergoing a grand expansion of over 200,000 sq. ft.
The Jewel Box in Forest Park: This magnificent greenhouse that dates back to the 1930's is now home to tons of receptions, events and weddings.
The Hanley House on Westmoreland Avenue: Beginning in the 1850's, this was home to the Hanley family for over 100 years. The family donated four acres of their land to what would become the city of Clayton, my hometown. The house has stayed in its original state, down to the furnishings inside. An icon on our neighborhood street, this house holds a special place in my childhood.
The Laumeier Sculpture Park: There's hardly another place in St. Louis that I'd rather be on a warm, sunny day. Sculptures scatter the +100 acres of the park, and the summer months bring plenty of popular events and new exhibitions.
Blackburn Park in Webster Groves: Another personal favorite, Blackburn was outdoor home during school. It's complete with baseball fields, tennis courts, arched pavillions and trails that the entire community enjoys.
Webster University's Emerson Library: This dramatic building holds inside it beauty, books and brains of hard-working Gorloks. Standing on one side of the open quad, the library's five floors hold a cyber cafe, conference rooms, study rooms, computer labs and endless seating options for that perfect all-night cram session.
